Takin' it to Heart

Each week (well more like every few weeks...Mommy's a bit of a slacker) Mommy and I learn a new letter, its sound, and a verse that starts with that letter. I love it! We're on letter C. So, Mommy (very cleverly) chose this verse: "Children, obey your parents." Ephesians 6:1. When I am not listening, Mommy so wonderfully reminds me of our verse and how Jesus wants me to obey. I think Mommy and Daddy don't give me enough credit, so one day, I surprised them..Daddy to be exact. Here's how it went down:

(to set the story up I had something I wasn't supposed to have)
Daddy: Hannah, please go put that on the stairs.
Me: No, I'll just put it right here.
Daddy: Hannah....
Me: ( and with no prompting and a raised arm in the air I reminded myself out loud of that wonderful verse and said:) "Children, obey your parents."

And off I went to put it back on the stairs.

You see, I'm not a dimwit. Jesus wants me to obey, so I will. At least this time.

That's a good idea to do the letter with a verse...I might do that, too! We like "Children obey your parents" too! We use that with Sophie a lot!

Love it! Let me ask you something, teacher. We're working on the ABC's with Andrew, too. Do you teach them in ABC order, or are there letters you teach first? Is there a guideline for that? He is very, very ready for learning the letters, when we read books he asks us to spell the word and then he says it back to us, so to me that means he's at least curious.
Thought I'd jump on it now, when he wants to learn! We've already conquered numbers (he knows them on sight, and in order), shapes, and colors, so would the alphabet be the next step?
So many questions...!

Hey Jenny! Wow, it sounds like Andrew is doing great! Hannah is not so good with numbers...guess we'll move to there next! I just go in ABC order. Then, if she asks about other letters (which she does) I'll tell her what it is but won't camp out there until we get there. She also loves to pick out letters on signs when we're driving..that's fun! So, I don't really know if there is a "right way" to do it. That's just been how we do it.

how fun that Hannah remembered the verse. Are you using a book or just making it up as you go along? I love stuff like that--lately Ada is just starting to understand things like prayer and God (on a very, very simplistic level), and it is such a reminder of why we are staying at home, you know?

Jessica, the above comment is from me--Laura Beth. I just realized that I am signed in under my mom's account.

LB- I'm just making it up as I go along although I'd like to get Susan Hunt's book that has the bible verses matched up with the letter. But for now, I will do this. It is encouraging to see her use her verses and she learns them so easily. I don't think we give kids enough credit for what they are able to do at such an early age. Hopefully this will stay with her and help her fight lies that we so often believe!

Yes, this is the verse that Savannah repeats very, very often as well, how wonderful (and cute)! :)
